In the Spotlight: Motivational Business Speaker Scott Toland Helps Audiences Get “Fired Up and Ready!”

By TSG

Are you looking for a motivational speaker who is brutally honest, captivating, and fun for your next event? If so, you might be looking for Scott Toland.

Scott Toland Leadership and Sales Speaker

Scott is a favorite speaker at corporate and association events, as he shares real world success strategies for sales, marketing, and customer service. With practical content and infectious enthusiasm, Scott leaves audiences “Fired Up and Ready!” to reach the next level in their lives and businesses.

How does he do it? And is he the right speaker for your group? Listen to Scott’s “In the Spotlight” session with Shawn Ellis, founder of The Speakers Group, and see for yourself:

“I’m a high-energy presenter and I enjoy a lot of audience interaction—and I enjoy it because they enjoy it.” – Scott Toland

The “In the Spotlight” series is your chance to “interview” prospective speakers as they share, in their own words, exactly what they do, how they do it, and who they do it for… so you can better identify the right speaker for your next event program.

Here are some highlights from Scott’s conversation with Shawn:

SHAWN ELLIS: I know you’re known for your “bold, tell it like it is” speaking style, and obviously a lot of humor combined with solid education. When is Scott Toland the right speaker for someone’s event?

SCOTT TOLAND: I’m a high-energy presenter and I enjoy a lot of audience interaction and I enjoy it because they enjoy it… I’ve heard from many attendees of conferences and seminars that sometimes things just drone on and on. I made a point when I first started speaking years and years ago, I never want to be the guy that goes up on the stage and within a matter of minutes people just can’t wait for it to be over.

I get people involved and I find that as soon as they realized that it’s a safe environment to participate, other people can then begin sharing what they’re interested in and we have a very, very relevant and incredible exchange.

SE: Surely one reason you can connect so well with audience is because you are a business owner yourself. When you’re not up there on stage, you’re running your business.

ST: I think that makes a big difference. I still run a business every day. I’m blessed to be able to speak all across the country but my primary efforts everyday are in support and growth of my own businesses that I have, and because I’m responsible for many employees and a lot of revenue, and a lot of businesses that serves communities or industries, I need to make sure that what I’m offering to my audiences when I speak is actually realistic and can be done.

The most valuable thing I like to have audiences leave with is the absolute commitment that the very next opportunity they have to engage in their own business, they can make a difference. I don’t like audiences to ever leave and say, “Well, someday I’d like to be able to do that.” I want every person in that audience—that’s my goal at least—that every person leaves and says, “You know what, I’ve got one or two or three things from Scott’s presentation today that I know I can start to implement tomorrow, and I know it will help me as soon as I put it in place.”

That’s what we’re shooting for is, “What can we do today? What can we do tomorrow? What’s realistic? What’s attainable? Where will I see those first parts of success and reward for myself that will encourage me to continue to go down that path?”

SE: What types of audiences do you usually find yourself speaking to? Or, what audiences do you feel most comfortable and most effective with?

ST: I’m very comfortable with all audiences. If we just have people in the room that the majority of them would like tomorrow to be better than today, we’ll have a lot of success.

SE: I know that your topics span across motivation, marketing, and sales, and you just alluded to some of the key motivational pieces, like “Making tomorrow better than today.”  What about on the marketing and sales side? Tell us a little bit about what you bring to that type of audience.

ST: On the sales side I understand the process of engaging the end user of our product. Keeping in mind, whatever we’re selling, there’s somebody that’s actually going to be using it.

On the marketing side, I think it’s, again, a matter of making sure the people that we’re dealing with are aware of all the methods of communication today and which methods are going to… yield the low-hanging fruit first. I think that when we get in to marketing we have to have a true understanding of what the universe looks like out there and what’s attainable to us.

We usually approach it with a “concentrate, dominate, advance, hold, and fortify strategy.” Those five steps when somebody understands those things with marketing will yield a lot more, quick results and a lot more efficient results, meaning the return on investments is much greater.
