Among high society and the sophisticated set, Steve Cohen is known as The Millionaires’ Magician. His demonstrations of magic and mindreading have baffled some of the world’s most successful people, including David Rockefeller, Jack Welch, Michael Bloomberg and the Queen of Morocco. Forbes named him “Magician to the Rich” and featured him in their 400 Richest Americans issue.
After learning his first trick at age six, Cohen was hooked. When his uncle, Nat Zuckerman, made a Morgan silver dollar disappear, it vanished in a puff of smoke. Just like Merlin! At the time, Cohen thought that this was real magic. He did not realize until he was older that all of his relatives smoked cigarettes, and the entire room was full of tobacco smoke.
The magical atmosphere made quite an impression on his young mind. At every family gathering, he cornered Uncle Nat and asked him to repeat the same tricks over and over again. The two of them master and pupil spent hours refining difficult card manipulation techniques and Cohen fondly remembers the day when his Uncle said, “The student has surpassed the teacher. You’re on your own now.” Cohen accepted the challenge, and has made magic his life.
After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in psychology, he spent a year abroad studying at Waseda University in Tokyo. Cohen has attained native-level proficiency in Japanese, and previously worked as an interpreter. While living in Japan, he was engaged as the resident magician of Tokyo’s finest hotel The Park Hyatt Tokyo, now famous as the setting of Sophia Coppola’s film, Lost in Translation.
Upon returning home to the United States, Cohen has performed at a wide variety of gatherings from The White House Correspondent’s Dinner to Fortune 500 corporate events and private functions.
He is the author of the book, Win The Crowd (HarperCollins, 2005), which has been translated into six languages. Cohen holds the esteemed rank of MIMC (Member of the Inner Magic Circle) with Gold Star, awarded by The Magic Circle in London. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and their two children.
